Building change, one house at a time

Sometimes policy change is about designing solutions and conceptualizing change. On paper. Sometimes you can make change in concrete ways: by pounding a hammer, sawing some wood and building a house!

SPPG Alumni get that both approaches of change are important. So, we have organized a Habitat for Humanity build.

Want to roll up your sleeves and give back to the community? Well, this is the perfect chance! We have organized a Habitat for Humanity Build.

Where: Victoria Park and Danforth (the site is 5 minutes from Victoria Park station)
When: Saturday, April 28th, 2012, from 8 am to 4 pm
Cost: $75 per person. Don’t let this stop you! The donation is tax deductible and a fundraising page will be created on the Habitat for Humanity website that can be shared with friends and family.

If you are looking to give back to the community, have fun, or blow off stress, this is a great way to come together and contribute to a family in need! If you are interested, please contact Dipal Damani at dipal.damani@gmail.com by Friday, March 9, 2012 and more detailed information will be provided. Remember, at least 10 people are needed to do the build.

We (and the first year students) need your help!

We need your help! SPPG has called on our expertise to conduct mock interviews with first-year students.

Mock Interviews with Alumni will take place on Monday, February 13. Each Mock Interview will last about 25 minutes, with 15-20 minutes for the interview itself and 5-10 minutes for alumni to give constructive feedback. Students will be provided with a Policy Analyst job description beforehand so that they are all applying to the same position. Alumni will also receive the job description, as well as expectations for the interview process and a set of guiding questions. Dinner will be provided for alumni.

This is a great opportunity for alumni will meet current MPP students and to make a difference in their student experience. Several students have indicated a strong interest in mock interviews. Interested alumni should register here.

Mentorship Library Launch – Jan. 12th @Victory Cafe

The Network is launching Stage One of it’s two-part mentorship program in the new year. Following the infamously intensive two-day Internship Marketing extravaganza @SPPG, alumni will gather at the Victory Cafe (581 Markham Street) with first and second year MPP students to connect over internship & employment options.

Students will have “browsed” the library ahead of time and will come with an idea of who they’d like to seek input from.

Holiday Party After-Party – Dec. 6th

They say there ain’t no thing like an SPPG Holiday Party. Well, now there is. And it’s for Alumni. Join us for the Holiday Party After-Party at Charlie’s Gallery on Harbord at 7 PM on Tuesday, December 6th where we’ll toast to the holidays, the pending new year, and of course, public policy.
